Aphids on Cannabis: Sticky Leaves and Curling Growth
Aphids cluster on the softest new growth and stem tips, drinking sap and excreting sticky honeydew that then grows sooty mold.
Identifying
Visible clusters of pear-shaped insects, usually green, black, or grey. Curled, distorted new growth. A shiny, sticky film on leaves below the cluster.
Control
Knock them off with a firm water spray first — it removes most of the population instantly. Follow with insecticidal soap every 4-5 days. Ladybugs are an effective biological control in enclosed tents.
Watch for ants
Ants farm aphids for honeydew and will actively defend them. If you have ants in the grow space, dealing with the ants is part of dealing with the aphids.
