Harvest Day: Turning the Chop Into a Celebration
Four months of work ends in one afternoon. Treat it like the milestone it is — invite people over, set up properly, and enjoy the part everyone remembers.
Set the room up before you cut
Trimming goes from a chore to a hangout when the setup is right. Do this before the first branch comes down.
- A big table, good overhead light, and a chair for everyone
- Sharp spring-loaded trim shears per person, plus rubbing alcohol for sticky blades
- Trays, paper bags, and labeled jars ready to go
- Music or a long show, and snacks that are not sticky
Make it a ritual, not a race
Cut at the start of lights-off after a 24-48 hour dark period. Take photos of the plant intact before it comes down — you will want them. Weigh the wet trim just for the fun of the number, then forget it, because dry weight is the real one.
Toast the cure, not the chop
The real celebration is three to six weeks later when the jars open properly. Put a date on the label and plan a night to open the first jar together with whoever helped.
