Keep a Grow Journal — It Is Half the Fun and All of the Progress
A journal is the difference between growing four times and getting four times better. It also happens to be one of the most satisfying parts of the hobby — flipping back to week two while you stand in front of a finished plant.
What to write down
Keep it short enough that you will actually do it. Thirty seconds a day is plenty.
- Date and day of veg or flower
- What you fed, at what strength and pH
- Temperature and humidity at canopy
- Anything you did: topped, defoliated, raised the light, moved a fan
- One photo from the same spot every time
Why it pays off
When something goes wrong in week six, the journal tells you what changed in week five. Without it, you are guessing. With it, diagnosis takes a minute.
The timelapse is the reward
Same angle, same distance, once a week. At harvest you have a scroll of thirty photos that turns four months into ten seconds. It is the thing everyone shows their friends.
Share it
A shared journal between grow buddies makes friendly competition easy and means two people are watching for problems instead of one.
Frequently asked questions
- Paper or app?
- Whichever you will keep up with. A notes app with a photo per entry is the lowest-friction option for most people.
- How often should I log?
- Every watering and feeding at minimum, plus a weekly photo. Daily is nice but not required.
