How Much Does It Cost to Grow Cannabis at Home?

There are three separate costs: the one-time setup, the consumables you buy each run, and the electricity meter that runs all day. Here is a realistic picture for a 4x4 tent.

Upfront equipment

A solid 4x4 setup — tent, ~480W LED, 6-inch fan and filter, circulation fans, pots, timer, meters — typically runs $700 to $1,200. Most of that is reusable for years.

Per-grow consumables

Soil or coco, nutrients, and seeds usually total $80 to $200 per run depending on genetics and whether you use clones.

Electricity

A 480W light on 18/6 plus fans is roughly 250-300 kWh per month. At $0.15/kWh that is about $40-50 monthly, less during 12/12.

Cost per run

After the first setup, a full four-month cycle usually lands between $250 and $400 all in, before counting the value of your time.
