Organic and living soil
Amendments are broken down by soil microbes into plant-available forms. It is slow, buffered, and very hard to burn a plant. You mostly water with plain water and top-dress occasionally.
The tradeoff is control. Fixing a deficiency takes days to weeks because the correction has to move through biology.
Synthetic salts
Nutrients are immediately available. You can correct a deficiency in a single watering and dial ratios precisely by stage. That precision cuts both ways — mistakes hit the plant immediately, and salts accumulate.
Which to choose
First-time soil growers usually have an easier time with a quality living soil and plain water. Growers who want repeatability, coco, or hydro should use a synthetic base line.
