Using AI Photo Diagnosis to Catch Grow Problems Early
An AI that reads photos of your plant can narrow a symptom to a short list in seconds, which is genuinely useful when you are staring at a yellow leaf at midnight. It is a starting point, not a verdict.
What it does well
Recognizing classic visual patterns: nutrient burn, common deficiencies, light burn, heat stress, pest damage signatures, and trichome-based harvest readiness from a good macro shot.
Where it struggles
Anything invisible in a photo — pH, runoff ppm, watering habits, root health, and your environment. It also cannot distinguish two causes that look identical without that context.
How to take useful photos
Turn off the grow light or take the plant out. Purple LED light makes color diagnosis impossible. Shoot one wide photo of the whole plant, one of the affected leaf, and one of the leaf underside. Include the growth stage and anything you changed recently.
Submit multiple angles
Several photos of the same plant give far better results than one, because the pattern across the plant is the diagnostic information — top versus bottom, new versus old growth.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I follow an AI diagnosis blindly?
- No. Treat it as a shortlist, then confirm with your own pH, runoff, and environment readings before changing anything.
