Drooping Cannabis Plants: Overwatered or Underwatered?
Droop is the most common thing a new grower sees and the most commonly misdiagnosed. The two causes require opposite responses, so guessing is expensive.
Overwatered
Pot is heavy. Leaves are thick, firm, and curled downward starting from the stem, giving the whole plant a puffy, weighed-down look. Soil surface is dark and damp. Recovery takes days.
Underwatered
Pot is noticeably light. Leaves are thin, papery, and hang limply like wilted lettuce. Soil is pale and pulling from the pot edges. Recovery happens within an hour or two of watering.
The fix
Overwatered: stop watering, increase airflow across the soil surface, and wait for the pot to become light. Underwatered: water thoroughly to 10-20% runoff and start using the pot-weight method.
Normal droop
A slight droop in the last hour before lights-out is normal. So is temporary droop right after transplant or a heavy defoliation.
