Plant Stopped Growing: A Systematic Checklist
A plant that has not visibly changed in five days is stalled. The mistake most growers make is changing several variables at once, which makes the cause impossible to identify.
Work in this order
- Root-bound: check for roots at drainage holes
- Overwatering: is the pot still heavy after three days?
- Temperature: is it below 68°F or above 86°F at canopy?
- pH: measure runoff or reservoir pH
- Light: too far, too dim, or the schedule interrupted?
- Salt buildup: runoff ppm far above input?
- Pests: inspect leaf undersides with a loupe
- Recent shock: transplant, topping, or heavy defoliation in the last 5 days
Change one thing
Correct the single most likely cause, then wait 4-5 days before touching anything else. Plants respond slowly and stacked changes hide the answer.
Normal pauses
A 2-4 day pause after topping or transplant is expected. So is a slowdown in the last two weeks of flower when the plant stops adding structure.
