How to Train Autoflowers Without Costing Yourself Yield

By The Budometry TeamPublished Updated

An autoflower flowers on age regardless of how it feels. Any technique that costs three days of recovery costs three days of growth you never get back.

Part of our pillar guide: Plant Training, Pests and Troubleshooting

Do: low stress training

LST is nearly free in recovery terms. Start early, around node four, tie the main stem sideways, and keep the canopy flat throughout the short veg window.

Do: light defoliation

Remove a handful of leaves that directly shade bud sites. Keep it to a few leaves at a time, never a strip-down.

Maybe: a single early topping

Only on a vigorous plant, only around node three, and only if you accept the risk. Many auto growers skip topping entirely.

Do not: transplant, supercrop late, or heavily defoliate

Plant autos directly into their final pot, avoid stem damage past the pre-flower stage, and never strip an auto that is already flowering.

Frequently asked questions

How long is an auto's veg window?
Typically only 3-4 weeks before pre-flowers appear, so all training must happen fast and gently.
