The dome holds humidity high for the first week, which is when seedlings have almost no roots and lose water through their leaves faster than they can take it up.

- Why does it need to be dark?
- Seeds germinate underground. Light during the soak and towel stage slows or stalls the tap root.
- How long until it sprouts?
- Typically 2-5 days in the towel after the soak. Plant tap-root down as soon as it is about a quarter inch.
